Abiding and Walking in The Spirit

Updated: Jun 4

If we abide in Jesus and our hearts are fixed on Him; we will fill our minds and heart with His word, then we will bear fruit. Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, we are vitally united, and My message lives in your heart. My Father is glorified and honored by this, when you bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples. (John 15:4-5,7-8) Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]; [we pray that you may be] strengthened and invigorated with all power, according to His glorious might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints (God’s people) in the Light. (Colossians 1:10-12) When our life is rooted in Christ and nourished by faith; we will be filled with love, peace, and joy in our inner-man. Faithfulness: Being loyal, trustworthy, constant, and dependable.

Gentleness: Knowing when to use a gentle word.

Self-control: Overcoming negative qualities and impulses. These are the virtues that will grow in us; in which the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Living by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage--our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23,25)
